Diamond Colour Chart

wealthymatters.com

Except in the case of fancy diamonds, where vivid colours are preferred, the most prized diamonds are colourless and grading a diamond optimistically is a fine way to improve margins.I use the chart above to judge colour. Ideally diamonds should be colour graded before setting them because the metal colour is taken up by the set stones.A good workaround to the problem is to wear a diamond of the grade you wish to purchase set in the metal of choice and compare with the gemstones in the piece you wish to buy. This way the effect of different colour lights can be controlled too.Slightly yellowish stones might not show on yellow gold but why pay more for them?

Diamond Size Chart

Here is a chart I find useful to get a general idea of the weight of diamonds set in a piece of jewellery.I use it to roughly estimate the price of the diamonds in a piece I am thinking of buying. Most jewellers merely give a gross figure of diamond weight not the weight of individual gemstones. The price of a carat of diamonds varies greatly depending on the size of individual stones. So being able to estimate sizes gives you a good chance to bargain. After all if  diamonds are to be treated as assets we need to be sensible about the price we pay for them.Hope you fund this chart useful too.

Do something to make more money yourself – spend less time drinking or smoking and socialising and more time working. Become one of those people who work hard, invest and build and at the same time create employment and opportunities for others.”

Verghese Kurien On Building A Successful Brand

The success of the Amul brand name has, no doubt, resulted in my being asked to comment on its history and the reasons for its success. I have, therefore, reflected on the long history of the brand to see if I could distill reasons why Amul is a name widely recognised and respected, not just in our cities and towns, but in our villages as well.

Probably the easy, but nonetheless wrong, answer is that Amul has been advertised well. Certainly it has helped that those responsible for keeping the Amul name in the public eye have used considerable imagination and, if I do say so, ‘The Taste of India’ is nothing short of brilliant. However, there is much more to it.

A successful consumer product is the object of thousands, even tens of thousands of transactions every day. In these transactions, the brand name serves in lieu of a contract. It is the assurance to the buyer that her specifications will be met. It is the seller’s assurance that quality is being provided at a fair price. Read more of this post

Gold Smuggling

Here is a fact I came a cross about a week ago.If you are trying to decide which way the price of gold will move short term, remember this fact.India’s official gold purchases might be down but consumption has probably not reduced as much as many pundits are positing, despite the high prices in Rupee terms.Mumbai gold prices are about Rs 1,500 per 10 grams higher than international prices
