An Interesting Business

wealthymattersThis is an interesting case I came across in today’s ET.I have no inside information’s, so no comments. The developments should interest would-be real estate developers in India.

A Canadian businessman of Indian origin, Alnoor Jamal, has accused both the sons of Maharashtra industries minister Narayan Rane and Mumbai-based builder Shobhit Rajan, among others, of ‘cheating’ him in a property-related issue.

In a petition filed at a metropolitan court in Mumbai, Jamal alleged that 13 acres of land he bought from Parke Davis in 1999 have been misused and a part of it was sold by his business associates to Nilesh Rane and Nitesh Rane without his knowledge at much-below market rates. The petition, which was reviewed by ET, alleges that the NRI businessman and Rajan had initially agreed to develop the property — located at the Sakinaka area, near the international airport — by investing . 2.5 crore each. They formed a company named Pantheon Infrastructure, formerly A-Class Builders, for the purpose. Read more of this post

Planning A Break

wealthymattersSabbaticals, which have become increasingly common due to work pressure and higher aspirations on the creative and entrepreneurial front, can hinder growth if not planned well. Worse, they can make the transition back to professional life tough. So here’s how you can reduce the risks o your employability.

1 Decide on the Reason Employees take sabbaticals to manage a special circumstance such as taking a baby-break,dealing with a family crisis or a child’s exam; when they feel the burnout coming; or to expand their knowledge and skills;live in the here and now,do something creative or try their hand at running a start-up. Decide what you want to address during your sabbatical, first, to make the best use of time that you will have to yourself. It helps too if you can decide on a cut-off date when you will return to work.
2 Discuss it with Your Family Before you reach out to your employer and communicate your decision, talk with your family.Your family backs you up if your plan doesn’t work out, be it financial or mental. Discuss with your spouse, children and parents before you take the leap.  Read more of this post

Earning Lakshmi Not Just Money

wealthymatters Lakshmi is wealth accumulated through honest and fair means. Money can be stolen as well. Lakshmi brings peace and happiness to the person who earns it. Stolen money only brings emptiness to the soul. If you notice Lakshmi’s idol, she has gold coins around her, signifying wealth. However, she is also seated on a lotus flower, and holds lotuses in her hands. The lotus is a sign of purity and peace, signifying spiritual well-being; of purity and beauty even in the muddy waters of the world. Without this peace, wealth has no meaning. – Chetan Bhagat

The Time Thieves

wealthymattersYou have 24 hours in every day, seven days a week for a total of 168 hours to accomplish what needs to be done in your life. And every day, eleven time thieves gang up on you and work to take some of that precious time away from productive use. Let me introduce you to this inconsiderate troupe.

  1. Poor Planning. People don’t plan to fail but a lot of people fail to plan. Without a plan of action set up before your day begins you are likely to get caught up in “stuff,” responding to the loudest voice that gets your time and attention. Will you have been productive for the day? Sure, but not as productive as you might have been.

  1. Crisis Management. When a deadline sneaks up on you it robs you of all choice and you are controlled by the clock. Crisis management, for the most part, is poor time management because you’re rushed and stressed, letting things slip through the cracks and often having to go back and redo what was not done well in the first place. Most of what puts you into crisis management is within your control, you could have seen it coming. Read more of this post
