When I first heard of Couchsurfing.org and of people going abroad and sleeping on a strangers’ couches.I was amazed. It’s hard to say who I thought was more mad – the people who chose this stay option abroad or the person who’s sofa this was; ”What? For free? How safe was this? Then there were the horror stories……… but so many people manage just fine and have a great time in a new city with a fantastic host. Then it dawned on me that rather than this being a horrific idea, it could actually be something fun, exciting and groundbreaking. Maybe the idea of trusting strangers has its place.,,,,,,
Couchsurfing allows people who are looking for a place to stay to get in touch with people who have places to stay. Easy. But Couchsurfing is more than just about looking for a place to stay – people ask for rides, others to accompany them to gigs, museums or just to hang out! What it’s really about is making connections. Read more of this post

If you are curious about the 2013 silver pennies minted by the Royal Mint to commemorate the birth of the Royal Baby, you can take a look at them here.
According to traditional folklore in England, crossing the palm of a new born baby with silver or offering them a silver penny is a way of wishing them a wealthy and healthy life.
2013 babies born on the same day as the Royal Baby will receive this free “lucky” silver penny. The penny will be presented in a pink or blue pouch and has been marked with the year 2013 to commemorate the baby’s’ year of birth and features a shield of the Royal Arms.
Parents of newborns who share their birthday with the third-in-line to the throne need to apply online for one of the coins that have been struck by visiting Facebook.com/theroyalmint. They have 60 days to register for the coin and will need to provide a copy of their child’s birth certificate to qualify.

In 2008, when Lehman Brothers imploded on September 15, the Rupee, which had by then slipped a bit from its sub-39 all-time high to around 41, fell sharply and by the time the music really stopped, about 3 or 4 months in, to over 50 to the dollar, a decline of 20%.
In August 2011, when the US debt downgrade followed by the exploding of the European sovereign debt crisis (courtesy Greece) hit emerging markets like a bomb, the Rupee, which had been hovering between 44 and 46 for several months – during which, incidentally, both exports and imports were growing like gangbusters – collapsed in a near-straight line, triggering RBI action on December 15, tightening rules and squeezing liquidity. When the dust had cleared – or so it seemed – the rupee had lost over 20% and there was blood all over corporate balance sheets (and, of course, profit and loss statements). The banking system is still recovering from this.
This time round, the fall so far is just half of that in the previous two cases.
