Shopping For The Best Axis Bank Saving Account

July and August are months in which I normally do a great deal of heavy duty shopping. While December is the time I prefer to score statement pieces for my wardrobe as my favourite brands offer 50% offs and its still early enough in the discount cycle for the best designs and correct sizes to still be available, July-August is a great time to pick up wardrobe staples ,restock innerwear and perhaps pick up clothes that might see just one or two uses, all at steep discounts of 70% +. Yes, its possible to get more than 70+ off, even on high-end luxury brands !!! You just have to strategically use store coupons, loyalty points and all the other incentives that brands use to lure customers into shops, along with picking a mode of payment that gives you the largest discount or cashback. And yeah, you’d better have enough money in your savings bank accounts to pay off these purchases in full, to avoid credit card charges nullifying your discount rates !
This year I was handicapped a bit while shopping as I wasn’t willing to pay via SBI cards and didn’t have an Axis Bank card handy. Instead I managed by using mobile payments. But doing so was a royal pain. The waits for OTPs via SMSs took forever and with stores and malls with no mobile signals, it meant frequently stepping out of the store and a couple of times outside the mall to catch mobile signals !!!! Sale season normally means facing a few aggravations for lower prices, but these mobile payment hassles were really a bit much.
I’m thinking an Axis card before my birthday on 7thSeptember is in order, so that I can give myself bigger birthday discounts without hassles .
So straightaway it was to the Axis Bank official website to check out savings bank accounts. The page has 14 options. Half of them I could straightaway eliminate. Either they were no longer being offered to new customers or were exclusively for children or senior citizens. Then it was a simple matter of picking one according to my personal preference. For my purpose of having a great Axis Bank debit card to take with me to the shops, it was best to open a Basic Savings Account. I love the zero balance facility. So there is absolutely no need for me to maintain MQBs at 3.5% interest rates. I could just fund the account before heading out shopping. And the 40K daily ATM limit and 1lakh POS limit is more than adequate for my needs. The only bit I’m not quite sure about is that the account offers a RuPay debit card. I still have to check-up with the bank that these cards, just like their Visa Cards, are eligible for the discounts at my favourite stores. Hopefully they are. Fingers crossed. Then I’m good to give myself the best of birthday treats – deepest of discounts !
