Housewives=Prostitutes=Beggars=Thieves?

Apparently the Census of India clubs housewives with prostitutes, beggars and prisoners as they are all deemed to not engage in economically productive work.The Supreme Court has taken strong exception to this and has held that housewives are employees and their ‘gratuitous’ services to their husbands and children can’t be taken for granted.Thanks to Remi for bringing this factoid to my notice.Ladies note that at least the highest court of the land acknowledges your unpaid labour!

Good outcome.
Definitely.
High time for Marx’s definition of productive labour to go out of the window.When the makers and sellers of the most speculative derivatives are seen as productive why not accept that housewives,prostitutes.beggars and prisoners have their own place in the economy of the nation?
In UK the taxation authorities would go after prostitutes and beggars if they could since it is income that they consider is taxable.
Well well well….
What is the UK taxman’s views on gifts?Especially within the family?
I am unsure, but if they can tax it they will try.
They must be desperate.Ours are.They had trouble collecting even half their targets.
Yes, the Inland Revenue in UK are under pressure to grab as much as they can as fast as they can by a government seriously in debt.
