Random Thoughts On WordAds

Since last Sunday,Wealthymatters has been sporting WordAds and I’m pretty pleased about it.I signed in today to find the WordAds in a little box and I think it’s much better than the previous format.And the videos are pretty neat.

I have always been drawn to the idea of doing something once and deriving a benefit from it for a long time.Earning from ads on a blog fits the bill.And the more passively I could do it the better.

But that was theory.I really didn’t see myself qualifying for any ad programs.I just didn’t believe I had the readership for it.And everything I was reading on the WordPress Forums merely reinforced the belief.

I applied for WordAds on a lark.And as I didn’t hear from staff for a long time I thought that Wealthymatters didn’t quite make the cut.Last Sunday, while I was in the middle of posting,I suddenly started seeing Ads and was really puzzled.I had not read the acceptance e-mail then.I thought that staff had to run ads to recover costs.

I believe that ads speak about the success of a publication.If there are no readers why would anybody go to the trouble and expense of advertising there?But on the other hand, I’m alive to the danger of getting too greedy for ad revenue.Who wants to read rubbish generated to grab ads?So I will do my best to continue to write generally useful and/or entertaining stuff.Should I start going astray,you-my readers,please let me know.

Of course,WordAds is itself a Beta at the moment.Also,I have no idea if Wealthymatters will do well enough to remain in the program.But till then I’ll enjoy the ads and I hope you do too.

As for the earnings, atleast one blogger is pretty unimpressed: http://halfblog.net/2012/05/07/one-month-of-wordads-5-dollars/.However, John Burke from WordPress talks of giving bloggers their due, though there are no specifics being spoken about yet.So I’d rather wait and see and persist a bit.And 5 is better than zero,especially when the ads look pretty.And anyways,in a business with hardly any entry barriers and countless competitors there are bound to be a few  big time winners and a lot of players with marginal takings.That said,since there are always people why do really well for themselves  why not learn from them?Here is a link to an interview of professional blogger JD Roth of http://www.getrichslowly.org/blog/ .Watch and learn from a person who has managed to actually make money out of blogging,
